Silver wants my help, Hiri has this idea, something that will help her help Cia. I hope it's worth it.

Journal 2/27/12

Had a drink with some of my 'new' corp mates. KJ, Gottii, Ulf. Felt a little out of depth when they were talking about Else and alliance goings-on, and wars in space. None of that is anything I know. Not even ship-to-ship combat that doesn't involve a breaching charge, for all that I'm a podder, technically. Felt like I just didn't have much I could add to the conversation. I'm sure I'll adjust, though.

KJ and I did have a little discussion once the others left, about stubbornness and luck, and which was better. I think luck won.

Hiri says I should just try to believe it wasn't my fault. That they should have come for us, and that I did make the best decision. That it- that it didn't work out isn't my fault. That's what I'm supposed to tell myself.

She said it's like this vine - mile-a-minute vine. It's a poisonous weed, and there's almost no way to get rid of it, except to plant another plant - farmer's friend. You plant farmer's friend next to the mile-a-minute vine and it starves it of nutrients. That's what I need to do, with those memories. Supplant them with something that's not as harmful. And if it's not my fault, I know whose it is.

Cia's still have trouble talking about what happened, but there was some progress.

She made a cheesecake too, it was delicious. Double chocolate.

I'm officially in Re-Aw now.

Met up with Ulf at Michell's for my interview. Assured him I'd follow the ROE. He said he needed to check if my standings would be a problem - hard to get Brutor tribe to notice your in-space exploits when you don't like being in an egg, I guess. Making a Sansha joke during my entrance interview might not have been entirely appropriate, but Ulf didn't seem to mind. Anyway, I'm in.

Will be good in case of emergencies, and good for helping me get to know the people Silver flies with.

The food was delicious, as usual at Michell's. They know how to make a burger.

NEOCOM SYSTEMS FILE: Outgoing Correspondence: Amieta Invelen 20.2.112

Hiri,
Here's the report you wanted. I rewrote it and then replaced references to myself, like you asked.

Intel indicated the target was a lightly defended (3-4 security; professional, unmodified, unpowered armor + staff)space based lab facility involved in pharma and narcotic research and small-scale synthesis. Blood Raider affiliated. Operation profile was for a single platoon, light loadout.

Platoon commander was Captain Amieta Invelen Jirai Korama.

At 0300, 23.9.100 the lab's maintenance airlock was breached and the team infiltrated the facility. The first 3 primary compartments were cleared without enemy contact.

A booby-trapped blast door sealed shut behind the platoon after they entered the active area of the installation. I Captain Korama ordered the platoon to take up defensive positions and sent automatic scouts to get a clear tactical picture.

Remote scouting revealed heavy, prepared defensive positions. Approx company strength. Heavy armor and weapons.

I The Captain kept the platoon in defensive positions and ordered Cpl. Takiinen to raise command on comms and request backup. Contact could not be established. That's about when the blooders vented the section's atmo.

Their heavier equipment allowed them to operate in an unpressurized environment nearly indefinitely. The lighter suits of Captain Korama's platoon lacked oxygen reserves/air reprocessing capabilities for sustained operation in that environment.

I The Captain had the platoon hunker down, hoping reinforcements would come. Contact was not re-established with control, and they never came. Couldn't find any way to breach the blast door. I Captain Korama considered an assault on the blooder positions, but we wouldn't have made it casualties would have been total. By waiting there was a chance that reinforcements would arrive, and we would still be alive.

Reinforcements didn't come. The platoon was captured intact once we were incapacitated by oxygen deprivation.

Cia visited to catch up and work on our respective 'shrink homework'. She brought a cake. I told her about what I talked with Hiri about, the family thing. She wasn't upset, not about that anyway. She used to have a dream, the same sort of worrying, I guess. Back before the tunnels. So she understood. I felt, just, relieved.

We tried to work on our homework. I think hers is the harder. I mean, it's a decision she's going to have to make. Mine, well. It's just things that happened. The past.

I tried to be supportive, and with how it's making her feel, I suggested maybe talking to Hiri before working on it too much more. Told her noone can make her someone she isn't.

She helped me too. Talked through what happened with me. I think having gone through it like that, told Cia, it might be easier to write down the way Hiri wants. She says they should have come for us. That I did what was best. It still doesn't feel that way, but she's probably right. With what happened after, though, it's hard thinking it was the best thing.

The cake was delicious.

Hiri seems to be recovering well from the surgery. Good thing, too, because she's probably gonna be busy once she's back with Cia. There's Nerila, and I told her about what happened with Cia recently.

I've been having more of the nightmares, lately, too.

She thinks it's because there's some part of me that's afraid Cia's going to abandon me, now her 'real' family's back. I mean, I know it's stupid - spirits know Cia's opinion of her mother is pretty damn low - but that doesn't stop the gnawing little voice. I think Hiri's right, I just need to talk with Cia, make sure everything out and clear.

I need to rewrite the report for Hiri a little too. Not take my name out till the end.

Journal 2/14/12c

Had that talk with Gottii. I think it went ok. He had realized that there was something wrong already, and he said he's willing to give Cia the space and time she needs. It's a shitty situation. He seems like a decent enough guy, but he needs serious and help and support just when that is the exact opposite of what Cia can afford to be giving.

Turns out he and I have a couple of things in common. Maybe once he's feeling a little better, we can grab another drink; trade lies about the places we been and the people who've shot at us. Assuming he follows through and gives Cia her space, anyway. He decided he wants to tell her himself.

Journal 2/14/12b

Cia's not really in a great way, with this Gottii thing, and having to deal with what she should do about her mother on top of it. She didn't want serious, and now he needs serious and she...

Well, it's not good. It's taking her back to a place that's not good. She said they were making her be this person that Gottii wants her to be for him. I'm going to talk with Gottii, see if I can make him understand. He must not realize what it's doing to her.

He sent me a message, wants to talk. I hope we can sort it out talking.

At least Cia wasn't too deep into it, I think she will be ok if things go well. I suggested we do out shrink-homework together - or at least nearby eachother - and she thought it was a good idea. She's going to bake a cake.

On entering the active area of the facility, a modified blast door sealed the route of ingress for the platoon. Captain Korama instructed the platoon to take up defensive positions.

Remote scouting of the next several compartments revealed heavy, prepared defensive positions. Opposition numbers estimated at company strength with heavy powered armor and crew-serviced anti-personnel weapons.

The Captain elected to hold position and attempt to contact control for reinforcements. Contact could not be established. During the delay, the opposing forces vented the section's atmosphere.

Their heavier equipment allowed them to operate in an unpressurized environment nearly indefinitely. The lighter suits of Captain Korama's platoon lacked oxygen reserves/air reprocessing capabilities for sustained operation in that environment.

The Captain gave orders to remain in a defensive posture and continue attempting to establish contact with control. So the whole platoon just huddled there until most of us collapsed from oxygen deprivation, and the blooders just walked in and dragged us out.

Hiri's out of surgery, resting up. Apparently everything went well. The medicos say she'll be ready to move back to Cia's hangar in a matter of days.

It's nice being able to use these resources we have to help a friend.

Word is Gottii had some kind of stroke. Eva made an announcement, said the prognosis is good. I hope he'll be alright. I hope Cia's alright.

Had a drink with some Re-Aw pilots at a place called 'Arkie's Bar.' Mata, Ulf, Gottii, Eva, and KJ. I guess the Caldari part of me is still a bit surprised that everything's so informal.

We chatted about different things, some more serious than others. Mata helped set up a new VR place, La Maison... something. My Gallente isn't very good. Sounds like a good place to visit, though. At least if you don't mind the drinks being virtual.

I think I'd like to get to know more of Re-Aw in general, though.

Journal 2/9/12b

I was never much for homework anyway.

Some other stuff came up when I talked with Cia. She's getting to see Gottii more than she thought she would, which she seemed excited about. She moved the rest of her family, too. Somewhere near the Crystal Boulevard, which from what she told me of her mother will be just about perfect for her.

We chatted a bit about politics too, Goons and CVA and so on. And she mentioned Hiri - said it was nice, what we're doing for her. Well, Nari really, is doing, and the extra medical folks we have. Asked about what happened. I guess she didn't know. Well, obviously she didn't. Cia would have made sure it was taken care of before this if she'd known. When Cia asked Hiri, I guess Hiri told her she didn't want to it seem like she was in the job for free medical care.

Nari seemed positively offended by the level of care that Hiri initially received for the burns. Something about 'an insult to the medical profession.' He can be a little dramatic, sometimes.

Anyway, so, Cia didn't know how Hiri got hurt, and she asked me. So I told her. Jemadar and pinning Hiri to the table, and the fire.

She started asking about Jemadar, so I told her he was gone.

She asked, 'Gone or gone?'

I asked her if she really wanted to know. She did. I told her.

I was surprised. She didn't seem to disapprove.

Caught Nerila scoring - buying herself stims. She claimed she needed them for stomach flu, since she is barred from medical on Cia's ships these days. Claims she's been clean since before the funeral. I made her go to a clinic instead.

Turns out it wasn't the stomach flu.

Nerila's first reaction was - she just wants it to end, everything maybe. Cia wants to help her. She helped Cia, more than I think I realized, though; back when she was still CMO and Cia... When there were all those problems. The Tenebrae bitch and everything. Now Nerila is in it up to her neck, and I can just imagine Cia thinking of it in terms of rivers and friends with rope.

Maybe she's right.

I suggested Cia bring Hiri in too, shrinks being experts on that kinda stuff. Which reminds me, I should work on that 'homework' Hiri gave me. I've put it off long enough.

Journal 2/7/12

Saw Cia at Fit to Fly, down at the pool. We talked about a buncha stuff, then we raced the length of the pool and then we hit the Gate. I beat Cia, in the race; a bit of a surprise, since she's a hell of a swimmer. Maybe she's not back in top shape yet.

We talked about Morar, a little.

A couple of other less tense, but maybe still not pleasant topics. Some more pleasant ones too, though.

She seemed really happy with Gottii. Like, really happy. I'm happy for her. Maybe a little jealous - it's been a while since I've found time for much of a romantic life. Time to make the time, soon, perhaps.

I need to have a sit-down with Gottii, though Cia's probably right: the 'Cami' test is probably even more stringent than the 'Ami' test.

Of course, Gottii got Cami a Rifter simulator, so I've no doubt he and Cami are getting along fine. Sounds like he's been getting quite a bit of Cia's cooking lately, too. Lucky bastard.

At the Gate there was steak, and those red sea-creatures with all the legs and the shell - delicious. And little roasted potatoes. Hell of a deal - that kinda stuff for free. They know how to do the steak just right, and make the potatoes all fluffy on the inside.

I think I was under-qualified for some of the discussion. I mean, I don't really have parents, so I can only offer what feels right to me. I trust that Cia will figure out what the right things to do are; hopefully the 'right things' she finds aren't at her expense, though.

Anyway, back to figuring out what to do with some of this excess medical staff.

I went down to the Bazaar, just to unwind a bit, ran into Hiri. We did a bit of shopping together. I got a Mariat - another fruit-bearer like the Rimpon, but with little tart orange fruit, Hiri said. She found a plant called a Dulai. Dulai is of religious significance to her - to her clan, to the Stone Dancers. She said it didn't feel right, seeing it sold in some shop. I think I understand - like seeing Hak'len sold at a convenience store, maybe.

Then Hiri went to a cobbler, about new shoes. She has to get custom ones, after what happened. She couldn't afford having everything fixed, not properly. So her legs, and feet - the limp... There's still pain, scarring, bleeding, from the old burns. Her 'reminders' she calls them. Makes me regret that Jemadar is out of my reach, now.

Anyway, it's like I told her: I've got all these extra doctors still hanging around, and equipment on the Ideal we aren't using. Might as well use it for something, since we're paying for all of it anyway. I've told Nari to set up the appointment with her, so he can take a look.
